Microsoft CFO Says SEC Is Reviewing its Accounting (Update4)

Microsoft CFO Says SEC Is Reviewing its Accounting (Update4) (Adds more comments about per-share earnings estimates in 5th paragraph.)
Redmond, Washington, June 30 (Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp. Chief Financial Officer Greg Maffei said the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is reviewing its accounting policies regarding its financial reserves.

The company said it is cooperating with the SEC in its review. The review was sparked by an article in the Wall Street Journal, Maffei said.

Maffei said analysts consensus earnings estimates are on the mark. The call comes three weeks ahead of the earnings to be announced on July 19. The fiscal fourth quarter ends today. ''We're very happy with the current pace of business,'' he said. ''I'm comfortable that we're at least going to make analysts estimates.''

He also advised analysts to raise their estimates by one penny to accommodate an accounting change.

Microsoft, which is based in Redmond, Washington, is expected to earn 35 cents a share for the fiscal fourth quarter, based on a survey by First Call.

Shares of Microsoft rose 2 3/16 to 90 3/16.
