Can anyone tell me why DSL is so expensive? I live in the Boston area, Brighton. I called InternetConnect after I saw an ad in the papers that they were offering free DSL trials (money back guarantee..). Here the prices: Speed Price 144 $89 192 $119 384 $149 768 $189 1.1M $229 How are they planning to compete against cable 1.5M for $40

Thanx Michael, I very much appreciate that post it gives some insight into the actual deployments going on. I find it encouraging for DSL overall. One of the things I keep hearing from my contacts at the local RBOC is that they as a company are forced to compete in the broadband market. It's that or be replaced or reduced to things like lifelines and 911 support line maintenance.
