Some of my female students already work for Japanese firms. I remember one young Japanese-American woman telling me 15 years ago that she had to go for a business meeting in her company in Japan, and the group was taken out to a Geisha party. She was treated perfectly correctly as one of the men. She also had a Geisha assigned to entertain her. It was suggested that she get drunk and act as silly as all the men routinely did. Today women that I know who go on business to Japan tell me there is little awkwardness and things go pretty well. No doubt conditions differ from company to company.
