Mobile phone network to get $2 billion boost
BLOOMBERG
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cable & Wireless HKT plans to invest $2 billion over three years to upgrade its mobile-phone network to accommodate data communications.
The firm expects massive rises in data communications via mobile phone and sales of mobile data and e-commerce services.

"We will combine Internet service Netvigator with our mobile-communications service so our customers can use mobile phones to surf the Internet," said Linus Cheung Wing-lam, chief executive of HKT.

HKT said it would provide mobile banking services with most big banks in the second half of the year.

The firm launched banking by mobile phone with Citibank in April. It plans to extend the service to include HSBC, Hang Seng Bank, Bank of East Asia and Dao Heng Bank.
