Nortel Confirms IP Networking Pact From
Telstra

MELBOURNE -- Nortel Networks Corp. (NT) confirmed it has received
a contract to provide advanced Internet Protocol, or IP, networking
solutions as well as support services to Telstra Corp. (TLS).

In a news release, Nortel said these solutions and services are estimated to
be worth between $100 million and $200 million and cover components of
Telstra's Data Mode of Operation project.

The company said it's also building a national CDMA wireless network in
Australia for Telstra, announced in 1998, and is involved in trials of
high-speed wireless Internet services for Telstra. Nortel said its overall
business with Telstra is estimated to potentially be worth up to $650 million
over five years.

Telstra is a telecommunications company.

Nortel Networks, Bampton, Ont., is a communications-networking
company.
