RTev,

I might be wrong about this, but my understanding is that AOL is not interested at all in being an ISP. In fact, I recall hearing that AOL outsourced its ISP operations and that AOL was only focused on advertising and ecommerce revenue. The reason for this is that Net access is less profitable and companies are starting to bundle it with other services/products for "free" (Gateway for example).

With regard to GNET being just another destination on the Internet, I don't have any problem with that. AOL greatest asset is its customer base. They got them by offering Internet Access. I think this will be less important in the future. AOL will have to compete on content and this is were GNET has the advantage. SI will continue to be the best financial discussion site on the internet. MetaCrawler is one of the best search engines on the net. And Hypermart looks very promising(based on Media Metrix numbers)

So granted, when someone logs on the internet via a cable modem, I would love the home page to say welcome to Go2Net. I would be satisfied with an blend of AOL/GNET because of the 20 Million people that would come with that.
