Warren : It's difficult to give tourist advice on a gold forum. In a nutshell I would say your friend should just go to the places where whites are and not be too adventurous. If she wants to do some nature stuff she should go to a regular game park with a proper guide etc. At night she should only go to the big hotels, restaurants and/or clubs and not walk around alone. Definitely avoid black townships, or roads to such places, like the plague. She must remember that the criminals and rapists love tourists. So she must try not to look like one. Always wear cheap clothes. No jewellery. Nothing expensive. Always a good idea to keep a bit of cash hidden in the pocket (few hundred Rand) so as to buy oneself out of a corner --- if necessary. Definitely no sex with locals --- just like she would do in the Vatican!
