I'm not sure if BAMM will drop to 8. That wouldn't be far above where they had leveled off after the last spike and drop. The deal with WMT is good for them, it's just not nearly good enough for the jump we saw today. Personally, I would be happy for 9 1/2 - 10.

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT 91 3/16 +1) Market digested news that SEC investigating MSFT's accounting practices and came away with this conclusion... Company erring on side of caution in slightly understating revenues/earnings... Street doesn't expect issue to hurt MSFT, as evidenced by appreciation in stock price... Stock nearing its all-time high despite assaults from various government branches... In the words of Mel Brooks, "it's good to be the King."

Books-A-Million (BAMM 13 7/8 +6 11/32) Books-A-Million was one in a million today, as stock surged more than 80% on announcement that company will be the exclusive provider of books for Wal-Mart.com... Deal put the hurt on short-sellers, adding to the frenzy... Volume totalled more than 24 mln shares.

America Online (AOL 112 1/8 +2 1/8) rallied on news included on Lehman Brother's list of "Uncommon Values." Firm has $200 target on stock. Stock was also one of my picks on CNBC's "Taking Stock" program.

RealNetworks (RNWK 77 7/8 +9) lands WebTV deal and investors applaud... Significance of deal goes beyond terms as some see move as MSFT's capitulation to RNWK... I think that's going a bit far myself, but RNWK proving that it can stand up to the software giant.

MCI WorldCom Inc. (WCOM 88 5/16 +2 1/4) bounced back after getting hammered on Wednesday... Legg Mason reiterated "buy" rating and $120 price target as analyst maintained that sell-off was not justified and created a buy opportunity... We agree.

General Instruments (GIC 46 +3 1/2) and Scientific-Atlanta (SFA 37 3/4 +1 3/4), leaders in the cable set-top box market, surged to within striking distance of new high ground.
