...I forget its name ...it is I think Kiluaa...

The name is Kilauea Volcano on the Island of Hawaii, known to locals as "the Big Island"...and you are speaking specifically of the Kilauea Caldera.

The lava is still flowing quite nicely from the Pu'u O'o vent near Kilauea and into the sea...each and every trading moment of the day.

I have seen the lava flows many times...it is incredible. The saddest time was when the historic, beautiful and well loved town of Kalapana (near the town of PUNA) was slowly and methodically eaten by the lava.

People tried for weeks to keep it away from their homes with garden hoses. Alas, Madame Pele prevailed! She even turned the incredibly famous black sand beach...into a vast wasteland in 1989. She is still showing her temper after 30 some odd years...it is the world's longest ongoing lava flow.

Aloha,
Mary
