By Warren S. Hersch, Computer Reseller News

Shares of chip maker Intel jumped nearly 6
percent in Thursday trading that saw gains
to many tech stocks and the major indices.

The Dow jumped 95.6 points to 11,066.4. The
Nasdaq, too, ended 20.1 points higher at 2,706.2. The
S&P 500 ended at 1,381, up 8.3 points.

Intel rose 3 3/8 to 62 7/8. Observers attributed the gain
in part to the decision by investment bank Lehman
Bros. to select Intel as one of its 10 "uncommon value
stocks" for 1999 to 2000.

Other blue-chip tech stocks also fared well on
Thursday. Microsoft finished at 91 3/16, up 1.
Hewlett-Packard gained 1 1/2 to close at 102. IBM
inched up 1 3/4 to 131. And Lucent rose 5/8 to 68
1/16.

Cisco dipped 1/16 to 64 3/8 and Compaq ended 1/8
lower at 23 9/16.

Among enterprise systems integrators and service
providers, Unisys gained 1 1/4 to close at 40 3/16.
EDS finished at 57 3/4, up 1 1/8. Computer Sciences
closed at 69 7/16, up 1/4. And Cambridge Technology
Partners edged up 1/16 to 17 5/8.

However, Perot Systems dipped 1 1/4 to 28 1/4. And
Keane ended at 21 7/8, a 3/4 loss. Computer Task
Group was unchanged from Wednesday's close of 17.
