Similar thought Gordon: if there was some magic way to vaporize gas and get just the right mixture profile over time and space (inside the cylinder), don't you think it could be done better via electronically controlled fuel injection?

Mind you, Orbital Engine has had a 'direct injection' method available for a long time, requiring modifying the chamber and ports, etc. as well, but they can't get entry into the marketplace very easily.... and I've quit following them. Now *there's* a stock that went nowhere for years, though it promises better fuel economy and lower emissions, and has been validated by field tests. *Might* make a dent with the water sport set (new EPA guidelines), and even BMW is playing with them. But OE's technology has more parts, is heavier, and takes up more space.

Yo, Gordon, yer wasting your time. The good Mr. Epstein is too wrapped up in his paranoia, not to mention urban legands, to think logically.

Gorden;

I asked the same questions at the time but Ford never gave any answers. What can I say? I mentioned this before. I know a man who has built and patented an all polycarbonate engine (with the exception of the crankshaft) and the auto industry wasn't interested. They told him they didn't want to spend for the tooling costs. So he makes them in his own factory. Some of them can generate 300 HP. He makes them for race cars and the Navy. It would seem to me that cars built with this engine could get excellent mileage but the big 3 aren't interested. I don't have the patent number. I never expected to need it for any reason at the time it was patented. One must assume that Ford's engineers were convinced at the time they bought the patent and that their engineers were competent. Yes, I do remember the snake oil claims of that era. That is why this one caught my attention.
