Have been trying to get a little familiar with the subject of Aids vaccines this past week (since hearing of VXGN). Doing a general search on the subject has brought up references to as many as 40 vaccines being developed, but only AIDSVAX is mentioned by name. It is obviously way ahead on the FDA time line. Having gotten through Phase I, it must have been shown to be safe. Does anyone have any insight as to how effective it is? It must be promising for VaxGen to spend the money on a large-scale Phase III program. Also, does anyone have any insight as to why the original company (Genetech?) gave the technology away? Thanks.
