Larry,

For many years, Detroit has started out selling the customer a Chevette, then moved them into a Taurus, then into a Marquis, then into a Cadillac/Lincoln. Step 'em up.

So from something more than an immediate near term, yet something less than a very long term perspective, the astute PC manufacturer will provide an easy path for the "Chevette" users to upgrade to their product. "And we'll provide easy, on-the-spot financing!"

And many of these new onliners will then look to Dell for something with a little more power, a smoother quieter ride and a good sound system.

So, these Chevette PC's will certainly be able to drive their owners...right to the showroom.

Best regards,
George Wave

Larry - does this imply that you expect INTC and DELL will experience forward eps growth rates which are roughly the same? i.e. that Dell will not grow at a multiple of the Wintel PC industry? Or are you saying that INTC is undervalued?

Larry re: "Dell should have the PE of INTEL"

Yea, that's about right, roughly the same as the IQ of the TA crowd, 33. <ggg> Aloha

Re: DELL, at best should have a PE of INTEL

Maybe for the mathematically challenged.

I'll put it this way. I own Intel and am a big fan, BUT, last year
they only grew revenues by 5% and earnings decreased by 15%.

If Dell managed to end this year with a dismal performance like that, earnings of .45/share on sales of only 19B, I'd be thrilled with a PE of 30.
