Charles,

Then do you remember what happened...the zippy, small cheap ones (and the bigger more expensive ones too, in many cases) suffered from a phenomenal absence of quality. So along came the efficiently produced, quality oriented foreign vehicles.

And then?

Gas was in good supply, the economy was chugging along, and what are they buying now...SUV's! Something bigger, a little more, something better.
