Mary regarding "Have you heard of the Bike trip down the road from Haleakala? It is supposed to be a blast. No need to hike...and it is all down hill!" I never took that bike trip but I am sure it would be fun .....no need to hike....depends on your interest...I am sure with a big group like this people will plenty on their own so we are just throwing ideas out here.....on the hike into the crater you see something very different than the bike ride....for the real hiking type there are cabins further down in the crater....I never stayed in them as very hard to reserve but some I knew did and then hiked all the way down to Hana on the wet side and then hitch hiked out ...I have always wanted to do this but never got around to it( Iguess I might leave out the hitched hike out part these days). Over on the big island I use to go to that natural swimming hole place I think called Queen's Bath but I heard Pele the fire god got that too. Here is one suggested schedule you should consider Day 1 arrive Hilo party on down at Puna's Place then up to Volcano House Day 2 hike and visit volcano late check out then down to Waimea Coast and stay at one of many great hotels Day 3 veg out at hotel or take hiking trip to some really cool beaches DAy 4 early check out fly to Maui in am drive wet side of Maui continue past no more car rental signs and all the way around and up to Kula(much more on this later) check in to Kula Lodge Day 5 either hike crater early am or to bike ride down crater late check out and on to beach hotel whereever you like....I still like Wailea Grade and for those who didn't buy enough gnet the hotel next store if still affiliated is a better deal and you can use grande pool which is the main reason to stay here anyway...its limitation its not near Lahaina but that you'll have to decide Day 6 and 7 veg out at pool hotel or day trips to the really cool deserted beaches to the east Day 8 depart..... Blue you continue to crack me up everyday....Little Beach hun...tell you storys when we are there. .
