Engineers are a dime a dozen. But have you tried to find knowledgeable security professionals that is actually worth paying $400/hour, Not making $400/hour. That is what some companies pay the consultants since hiring them is too expensive. There were used to be a lot of those $400/hour names in network general, pgp, solomon etc who were lucky to have them on the staff making much much less.. I see those names now at issx, chkp, sophos etc.. You might not need the 200 megaton warhead. But if the 20 megaton warhead blows up in your face you sure would have wished you had at least a 2 ton warhead that worked after you were out of the room.

Oh yea I used to complain a lot about norton, But it seems the latest one fixed a lot of the crash problems so I actually installed nav and norton and fixit from MIJENIX is GREAT! I have never seen such a polished and well done program by someone so got rid of norton too after using it. And as stan says, I will cut off my nuts if nai ever gets anywhere close to the finess of Mijenix. Took symc 2 years to fix their problems and they still had most of the original team. They dont have the product breadth but the products themselves are solid and that is high priase after I trashed them last year.
Dont even want to think about the number of times I reformatted my hd to get rid of some crap that comes sorta free with stuff. free is good if it worked or even if it dont work and you dont spend more than enough time and energy trying to figure out why your system is so unstable.

Oh anyone hear ORCL, BMCS, CHKP, ISSX etc saying they have not seen any Y2K slowdowns?

David- Thank you, well thought out piece. I appreciate your effort. My orgional thought for this company hinged on the "suite" concept. My hope is that you are not alone in your thinking.
