David, you set a good example to show people that thru self study one can achieve a status few obtain, even with advanced degrees. You did touch on one simple characteristic needed: - what to know how things happen, the why or how, that preceeds the event - to do above one must ask questions to receive new information - must be able to say to another person "I don't know, help me" I have seened it many times, the person always asking the "dumb" question eventually becomes the person that has the most answers. In your Bio is a great story for those who resent MicroSoft's sometimes too lofty attitude as "we will set the standard and point the way". << There is even a side story I will mention. We gave Microsoft a copy of our CBT binary in exchange for a bunch of Microsoft licenses. Well about a year later ETS (Educational Testing Services, the makers of the SAT) came to us with a program they wanted us to try to duplicate. It was our CBT program. The story they were told was that Microsoft had tried to reverse engineer it and failed... I was able to achieve this rare level of programming status by asking many 'dumb' questions of many people more experienced than me....>> << so i take it you are a programmer now ? >> No, it was just an area that was getting a lot of attention back then, and I just wanted to peek behind what all the talk was about, as in that computers will take over control of the earth and think for us. I will go back to it later and make some more programs, as I have a long list of ideas I put down on paper to develope. As you know programming can really take control of your time and attention and after you already spent too much time and should do other life things, you say "just until I complete this part...15 minutes", and 2 hours later you still are working to finish that 15 minutes.
