NEC Selects Schlumberger RDX Systems for Design Validation Through High Volume Production Test of New Generation of RDRAM Devices
NEC Chooses Schlumberger RDRAM(R) Test Solution to Heighten Productivity by Maximizing Yield and Throughput

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 1999-- Schlumberger Automated Test Equipment (ATE) today announced that NEC has selected its RDX(TM) systems -- the industry's leading RDRAM test solution -- for design validation through high volume production test of its new generation of RDRAM devices.

''NEC's RDRAM device ramp calls for us to quickly and cost-effectively reach a high level of production yield,'' stated Naoto Sakaue, senior manager, Test System Engineering Division, NEC. ''The Schlumberger RDX systems meet our needs in both the design and high volume production phase of this ramp. The systems will be an asset in maximizing yield and throughput, and therefore productivity throughout the entire process.''

First out of the gate with the industry's only high performance RDRAM device test solution, Schlumberger is helping its customers stay ahead of the productivity curve in the evolving ramp of this challenging new technology.

Designed to significantly accelerate RDRAM device manufacturers' time-to-volume and dramatically increase yields, the new Schlumberger RDX series is flexible enough to accommodate evolving test methodologies, and is identical in tester operation from design validation through production testing, greatly simplifying and shortening the RDRAM device development cycle. Additionally, SABER(sm) (Schlumberger Advanced Business Engineering Resources) provides skilled business and engineering resources to assist memory manufacturer's transition to this dramatically new technology.

In March 1999, Schlumberger introduced its technology-leading RDX
series, which includes:

-- RDX2200dv - a turnkey RDRAM debug and verification system that is
the only fully integrated e-beam and tester solution available,
enabling direct probe of internal RDRAM nodes at speed.
-- RDX2200cs - high performance characterization system that allows
RDRAM to be tested at the absolute widest operating range
available.
-- RDX2200tc - an advanced test and thermal characterization cell
designed for RDRAM product development that features the
industry's fastest temperature change: -35(degree)C to
+125(degree)C setpoint range.
-- RDX2200 - a single-insertion RDRAM production test system which
features +/-50 pico second edge placement accuracy, 1Gb/s data
rates, and x8 parallel test.

In the short time since introducing the series, Schlumberger has already delivered RDX systems to four of the top memory manufacturers for design verification, characterization and high volume production of RDRAM devices.
