tmrent: Re. "VoD has not developed such a fever as yet." I have fast Internet service (ADSL 1.6Mbps) and would give it priority over VoD if I had the choice, so I agree with your statement. I also agree strongly with the "political" aspect of this issue. There are some entrenched behemoths out there, as you note, including the video stores as well as the studios, although the video tape people would seem to have the most at stake.

Still, it will be economics in the end. There are enough players in the business to prevent politics from winning over economics, at least it seems to me. If the VoD test markets show promise for profits, I think the business won't care about the video stores. But I haven't studied the data enough to know how well VoD is doing where it is deployed.

I see no rush into VoD but I don't see anything stopping its eventual emergence as a "blockbuster" technology. What most interests me right now is what horses will lead the charge.
