2nd. Today is the second. It should be second nature to perform a self breast exam or to ask a loved one if they have done so this month.

RACE FOR THE CURE: www.raceforthecure.com

Don't believe that stats, play safe and do your exam. MRS. BLUE was 39 when diagnosed and her cancer was by then at least a year old or more old. A fast growing, grade 9, a killer unless caught quick.
Jed sez "I ast U ta PLEEEASE gets inta da habit of self exam. Chances R MRS. BLUE woodnt be here taday ifn she did nots do her exam. Jed luvs U Laydees n wants ya around sos do yor exam!"

Blue and Jed, thank you for the reminder to do the self-exam...DONE and looks OK. So glad progress is being made with cures, maybe something some of the pharmaceuticals are doing right. And Howdy MSR, yeah keeping up with posts can be difficult, I just went away for 4 days and there were a zillion posts when I came back. Writing what you think of writing when you come by of course is fine. As long as you Just Dew Drop In!
So you had trouble with isp, and Blue's had trouble with phone line, and noticed others here and on other boards have written lately about access trouble too. Mine is slow this morning, even after emptying the cache. I think I got part of the answer....
SCHOOL'S OUT!!! Yep, the kids are enjoying their summer vacation in ways we never knew how at their age... lolling in front of the air conditioner on the internet, microwaving snacks, cooling off in the shower, staring into the frigerator with the door open every half hour, talking on the phone at the same time, got the stereo on, and tv on with the sound turned off too... high utilities bill high maintenance lil technotykes that they are! Probably it'll stay slow like this for us Adults Trying To Do Business Online til they're back in school in September.
Speaking of kids, best of luck with that new job; hope you get a great team the better to catch plenty of at-risks before they turn into emergencies, getting 'em on the right track again quickly. You must be great at knowing how to listen to and talk to the kids. I've been a teacher, worked "undercover" with the CS Team Folks too and know how they go all out to properly assess and help the kids. So I know some of the difficult situations you're dealing with from both sides of the fence, MSR. It's All A Life Education.
Here's A Case In Point that I'm sure won't be anything new to you but may be of interest - I've also sat on The Other Side Of The Table, playing for My Kid's Team Only. She was getting low grades and the cause and solution was being examined. So there I was, First Thing First was my having to get up and drag a chair beside me for her to sit there - because the seating had been arranged for her to sit opposite in an interrogational placement instead of next to me as proper - The Steamroller Setup which certainly wasn't to my liking and my daughter's Team Counsellor leaped up to help me. It started out with me biting my tongue to not flare and volleying back the insult of us both having to deny the uneducated single-parent broken poverty-stricken chaotic child-neglect home assessment first...all in order to favor a couple rude and embittered tenure burn-outs pretending not to have to worry about covering their @&&es for their refusal to do their jobs and teach the subject while provoking and emotionally abusing the students in their charge. I had cited concrete examples of such after gathering permission from parents of witnesses to give their childs names to back up the citing of the incidents - even being nice enough to describe "poor examples of workplace behavior" rather than the "abuse" and "refusal to teach" that it was. I supported my daughter's refusal to accept such an atmosphere in her day as to her credit and as a reflection of the quality of our home;though yes it WAS insubordinate. This didn't get us any popularity points with the school, but lemmetellya It Was The Truth. The CS Team was Umpire and did a great job; they were sympathetic but could do nothing except recommend Alternative School Placement for my child which has turned out to be the more maturely polite and more independent environment she needs to succeed academically - A Win/Win All Around Was Achieved. The whole meeting turned out right because it was fortunate I'd had the experience to understand everyone's position on the field, advised my daughter what would probably be going on, and so we stayed calm and didn't take it all as personally as we would if I hadn't. They all knew what was wrong before the meeting happened, the school was trying to head it off because all their hands were tied. The Shrinks knew just what was going on, and had to play it from the middle...they did a great job. I understand the teachers in question and some others of negatory legend outside our experience are retiring early this year or being let go, so I guess in a way it's a win/win all around except for maybe the system and the taxpayers...so what else is new. Perhaps this is the summer some real assessments and overhauls are being done... in view of the wave of violence in schools that occured this year, I'd guess and hope some young and old provokers of it alike are being removed from the school environments.
MSR, you guys on The Team are right smack dab in the middle and it's so often not an easy position to be in, huh. Difficult trying to bypass assignment of blame when everyone's sitting around a table in C.Y.A. mode... when all you're interested in doing is to be the child's advocate first, but everyone's advocate really.Solving whatever the problem is without magnifying the cause of it (unless necessary) while figuring out how to help the kid without unnecessarily stepping on anyone's toes; that sure can't be easy. More Power To You, MSR.
Yer pal,
Joan
