Athlon DO have a competition in the form of P-III.
The P-III is embedded in well-established infrastructure
(chipset, motherboards). Athlon has none, and
therefore needs to be discounted proportionally.
After all, the 10% performance advantage (on average)
is not impressive enough to sell the product
at sky prices in the market that is 80% occupied
by P-xx's.
High availability of P-xxx is a big factor.
The tough game for AMD is still ahead, IMHO.
