Jeff, I was bluffing I just made up the number and was hoping no one would call me on it -g- The numbers came from a newsletter but Barron's Market Lab section gives fundamental data for various indices based upon the most recent 4 quaters of reported earnings . Yes, I should have written it more clearly but i'm still drinking my coffee. yes the market is supposed to trade on future expectations but the analysts forecasts are pure nonsense over the past few years of this mania.
