Yes. Another thing strikes me, however. Michael raised Smith's Christianity as support for the idea (and forgive me if I express this crudely) that America's prosperity is the result of its Christian beliefs and morals. It seems to me that this is precisely the opposite of Smith was trying to do. He wanted to come up with completely 'natural' explanations of economic life, leaving God largely out of it. He was trying to do for economics what Darwin was later to try to do for biology.
