Borders.com Newsletter Volume 2, Number 5 Thursday, July 1, 1999
Dear Friend of Borders.com:
We've been working on something over here. Maybe you've noticed? For the past several weeks, we've been fortifying our site with more commentary, reviews, and suggestions from our department editors -- adding several new editorial features that go well beyond the book jacket or dust sleeve copy that's so prevalent on the Net.
In other words, we're putting together a site that's less a dressed-up warehouse and more a thinking, breathing bookshop (with CDs and videos, too). If you haven't stopped by to see what I'm talking about yet, this is a particularly good week to do so. Please take a look, then email us to let us know what you think.
THE DAILY BYTE -- Our extremely popular daily take on current events, with an eye toward the phenomenal, the funny, and the very, very odd. Daily Byte: email.borders.com
GRRRL TALK -- A weekly column by and about, but not just for, grrrls. This week, Jessica chats with writer/editor/ go-getter Ophira Edut, currently the Associate Editor at Ms. magazine. Grrrl Talk: email.borders.com
LOGIN: STEPH -- Our weekly look at computer books and trends. Steph tries her hand at day trading this week and offers a few suggestions to those who want to get their feet wet, but not soaked. Login Steph: email.borders.com
AUDIO TALK -- Audio book reviews you can use. This week, find out why the Phantom Menace audio book offers a whole new layer to the Star Wars Episode One experience. Audio Talk: email.borders.com
ARE READING GROUPS FOR YOU? -- If you've been thinking about diving into a reading group, you'll first want to read this account of getting started by our assistant site editor, Rich Rennicks. Reading Groups: email.borders.com
OUR VIDEO AND MUSIC COLUMNS -- This week, Sharon talks film noir while Maggie dips into the Brit pop scene. Check back every week for their thoughts about the worlds of song and celluloid. Music Box: email.borders.com Video Viewpoint: email.borders.com
50% OFF BESTSELLERS -- As always, all New York Times bestsellers (plus several other titles we expect will hit the list), are 50 percent off. You'll find books like Bob Woodward's "Shadow: Five Presidents & the Legacy of Watergate," and "Body-for-Life" -- fitness trainer Bill Phillips' motivational guide to getting your butt off the couch and into a smaller pair of jeans -- at half price. It's a big list folks, and it's all half off, this week and every week.

Take a couple of minutes to look over our laundry list of fun freebies.
SIGNED SARAH MCLACHLAN GUITARS -- Enter to win one of four guitars signed by Sarah McLachlan. As collectors items go, this is much more of a conversation piece than, say, the latest Beanie Baby.
