Jd, Re: ISPCON intro - I think you meant Fall Internet World on Oct 6. ISPCON is at the end of October in San Jose. Maybe ISPCON has grown in the last couple of years, but I attended ISPCON in San Francisco in '96 or '97 (I believe it may have been the first or second ISPCON, though I could be wrong there) and it was an auditorium-based forum with presentations and about 10 booths outside the door. None of the vendors were anyone I'd ever heard of. The booths were the blue-draped tables and it was all high-end networking equipment. There were only about 100 people in the room. When asked how many were ISPs, only 4 people raised their hands. The rest of us, it turned out, were all equipment vendors. At lunch, I couldn't find a table with anyone from an ISP -- I sat with some Cisco people and some other equipment vendor folks. So I'll assume you meant Fall Internet World. I don't know anything about Internet World, but since it's only one day, it can't be considered a big show. I checked out the link you posted (thanks!) and of the Sep/Oct events, the one that I would think they'd want to introduce/show new PCs at would be Networld+Interop (Sept. 13-17). That's a big computer show, and while it's still heavily networking equipment oriented, at least the PC vendors do show up there. That would also tie in with the rumors of an early September announcment (BTW, the rumor is that the announcement is September 5th? I think that's what uncle's been using. I just noticed that the 5th is a Sunday, so I doubt that that's the right date). Having said that, I just checked out the exhibitor list for both shows and HP and IBM are exhibiting at Internet World and Compaq and HP are exhibiting at Networld+Interop. Interestingly, the company that's supposed to be taking 2/3's of the Fall production of RDRAM -- Dell -- is not listed as exhibiting at either show. So now I have no idea what to expect <g>. This is worse than waiting for Christmas. At least we know exactly what date Christmas is going to come on. <G> Dave p.s. The $40 sounds like a good deal. Can you tie it in with xDSL access or are they two separate purchases (I ask because I'm trying to figure out if cable or telco guys offer "road-warrior" packages with their high-speed internet access)?
