But that is not the most ethical ethical or smart smart. What ever ethical and smart are defined to be. I see us as short term gratification junkies- in everything. That does not seem wise, moral, or very healthy from any perspective.

Americans were not always so short sighted- but there have been periods when they were (like the 20's). There seem to be periods when society collectively loses its senses, and a pervasive fantasy will engulf the nation- not just us- it happens everywhere. I keep meaning to read that book on manias- I think I would like it. And since I consider religious people (en masse and in general- exceptions abound) to be rather maniacal they probably are partly the reason our economy functions the way it functions. If God wants you to be rich- do you worry as much? Do you research as much? Are you as careful? I don't know.

<<But much of that is the consumers fault. We want cheap cheap cheap we get offshore offshore offshore.>>

Typical of a wholesaler. Do you always buy from the seller who wants the most for an identical product? Everyone wants to save money, quickest way to save.

In the 70's and before the US had a technological advantage in industry that let her pay her workers more to make the same product and stay price competititive. That's in general and I know there were specific products that doesn't work with.

Industrial technology has slowed in the US and productivity can't keep up with cheap wages.
