Howdy All, Live @ Techstock '99... "The Band" sings us their own "Would You Like To Be A Bird" (from the Easy Rider Soundtrack, vrooooom vroooom) in honor of little GNET and Russ chickies getting their flying lessons today... LIVE BIRD OMEN, Nasdaq up, many stock prices not looking too bad for the Friday before a 3 day weekend especially, they seem to be alternating in little rises, going up and down like piano keys & doing some do-si-dos...doubleplusgood. Speaking of Chickies makes me think of stocks that begin with C and of CP's (Cheepies).... Looky what CMGI just bought, and there's something about it that looks a bit better than the last time I looked at it, can't really say what, just an overall impression and the many sponsors in the banners...http://www.altavista.com - with the synergy possibilities CMGI commands with their holdings, this thing should be getting mighty interesting right quick! CMGI now need not register as a mutual fund....they had til Oct. to do something to get at least 40% of their holdings under their control....and buying AltaVista will serve well as a synergistic working umbrella is the way I understand it. A Win/Win all around, now CPQ has a nice boo$t from the sale and sitting on the CMGI BOD puts it in a great position to take advantage of the networking opportunities with all those great net companies they've got. CPQ's got some new folks at the helm, so maybe just maybe they won't blow it this time. Another "CP" I've been watching again is CPU (Comp USA). It's about to shift its focus from only computers to encompass all consumer electronics, and we know what that means...The Shape Of Things To Come IMHO. Now that thing is reeeealy cheap, and I don't know what's happening in your neighborhood, but around here they just took over 2 family biz computer store local chains that had formerly been independent locals (not big enough to call 'em franchises but they had big stores and a good reputation) and real quiet-like, too. Anyone else notice such a thing happening in your area? I bought CPQ more than a year ago and it went on a downhill trend from then on; I sold it for a loss, and good thing as it's gone down even more since then. In a year it's gone from 20+ to 7 3/4 having little volatility in market pops and rallies; it plummetted from 11 to 6 in March and has only moved back up to this point since then, although what slight movement it has made has been upward due to a 23% increase in sales, paying off some debentures only to turn around and file for more bonds, and looking like the poor earnings are because it's in expansion mode and also squeezing the nickel from buying Tandy and also some other big chain I forget the name of it. Yep, CPQ's been making moves under the radar lately, lemmetellya... I'm not recommending it or buying it but I'll be researching it again soon when I get a chance...perhaps a verrrrrrry interrrresting definite maybe not too long a ways down the road, looks like. Or it's making itself into a highly attractive acquisition target at the very least, as the folks running that show seem to have some trouble making ends meet as they should a little bit, too. We're cruising on Muzak Again, Live @Techstock '99. But there's a party back by the rockstars trailers, and they look suited up and ready to go on anytime now, if they get A Holler. 909s, Joanie
