Nokia is making strong gains in the fastest-growing handset standard, CDMA (code-division multiple
access) and has a solid position in the TDMA (time division multiple access) market. The analyst forecasts
that Nokia will increase its share of the CDMA market to 20% by 2001 from 7% last year. She expects
Nokia to become a market leader in the so-called third generation phones, as a number of smaller players
struggle with the technology.
