It USED to be pretty clear, namely, an option with either
a different strike or a different exipration was a separate
security.

God knows how it may have been fuzzed recently,
but I have been using this rule in my own option trades
for well over twenty years with no argument from the
IRS. Of course, my option trades are proabably so picayune
as to sail right under their radar. Still, it survived
an audit in which most of the transactions (and most of
the losses :( ) were in options.
