Hi Jeff, a belated thank you for the great link you provided:

loral.com

The parent directory contains the whole 5/99 analyst's briefing. Though some of it has been discussed here, and none of it is earth-shattering, it provides a rather detailed and up to date, straight-from-the-company's-mouth, presentation on G* and other Loral businesses.

Regarding G*, I was favorably impressed by the detailed Gateway roll-out schedule, and sheepishly withdraw some critical remarks I've posted in the recent past about the company not explaining the roll-out plan. The web presentation confirms the nine operating gateways in September to be in France, Italy, Beijing, Argentina, USA (less W. Coast), South Africa, (southern) Brazil, (eastern) Canada and Korea.

By 12/99, seven more in (Western) Canada (and covering W. Coast USA), Finland, Peru (see note), Nicaragua(!), Moscow and Novosibersk, Russia, and Mexico.

Note: detailed charts on TeSAM roll-out in same presentation discuss Venezuela and not Peru.

I'm less happy about the retail service provider agreements. In the case of Airtouch, it's said to have agreements with "Airstar" and "O'Gara" and MoUs with 12 other (unnamed) companies. I haven't been able to find out anything about "Airstar." O'Gara is an Iridium and Inmarsat supplier and not exactly a household name, either. BTW, O'Gara is offering Iridium service for as little as 1.99/minute.

As TMann observed (Post 5563) Vodaphone's rollout plans were conspicuously absent in the presentation. Though that's not necessarily significant, it's also not reassuring.
