Both Brocade and Ancor are Fibre Channel switch
manufacturers. I believe that McData uses a
Brocade Silkworm switch inside which makes the
product a mongrel at best :-)

One has to assume that EMC would evaluate both Ancor
and Brocade switch designs if they want to remain
competitive with IBM. Brocade announced they had IBM's
business recently. Ancor announced they won Sun's
blessings (actually, Brocade has often declared they
had Sun's business locked up until they went public).

Speaking as an EMC stockholder, I sure hope EMC
tries to do more than merely copy a bunch of IBM
SAN designs discussed 18 months ago at conferences.
Both Brocade and Ancor make good products. EMC
may dual-source or pick the one with higher performance.

I agree with you that McData has been holding EMC
back and the company would do well to dump them at
a tidy profit.
