LONDON, July 2 (Reuters) - Shares in British microchip designer ARM Holdings Plc soared to a record high on Friday in response to repeated positive comments on the stock from Goldman Sachs, dealers said.

ARM stock surged 163-1/2p or 21 percent to 952-1/2p by 1510 GMT in volume of around 1.3 million shares, making it the best performing stock among the UK's top 350 listed companies.

The investment bank said ARM results due on July 21 would show continued high momentum and an increasing presence in new growth applications beyond handheld electronics.

The investment bank said it continued to rate the stock as a "market outperformer".
