New FILEMAKER could be AAPL's Enterprise server market entree

AAPL is to introduce a faster PowerPC based on IBM's new SOI technology obviously destined for a new AAPL (Enterprise) server .

FileMaker may be the server database to open AAPL's Enterprise market:

========
" (FileMaker) President Dominique Goupil, the goal of 5.0 is to add features
that will help the company move up the food chain from
a desktop database to a tool for use in workgroup
environments...

... I think they're going in the right direction," said Folger
of FileMaker's plans. "The main thing they are missing
that IT still wants is to use FileMaker Pro solely as a
front end with the data stored in a database like Oracle
or SQL Server. They need that capability to make it
big in the global 2000-type company."

According to Goupil, these changes should allow
FileMaker to capitalize on a space in which products
such as Microsoft's SQL Server are overkill and there
is a real need for the "right tool for the right job."
According to Folger, that market could be ripe for the
picking.

"Right now, Microsoft is sitting on top of the mound
thinking they've won, but FileMaker is a good dark
horse with the potential to sneak up on Microsoft a
bit,"Folger said. "If FileMaker can get the scalability
stuff, they could make some real headway."

In addition to adding features to FileMaker Pro that
will make it more attractive for workgroup users, the
latest version of FileMaker will likely coincide with
updates to the FileMaker Web site. Those changes will
be directed at making the site a "portal" for information
related to FileMaker Pro, such as development and
implementation ideas.

Version 5.0 will not be supported on Linux, but Goupil
did not rule out the possibilities for future versions of
the database.
