Ariba, another hot IPO, exploded on the scene with no sign of slowing down. Last week, Ariba Inc. (ARBA: news, msgs) started the recent IPO frenzy with a 268 percent gain on its first day of trading. Unlike many other one-day wonders, this new issue blossomed on string of positive market days to reach 119 by Friday's close, a new high.

Most meessage boarders were optimistic about the long-term prospects, although they saw the near-term as a tad pricey. Lancenaka on CBS MarketWatch shared his thoughts, "Ariba's numbers do not lie. They are backlogged with some pretty impressive customers. Although competition is fierce, Ariba is a good, strong company. They have some good executives from other top companies (i.e. Oracle, AMD, etc.) So the management knows what they're doing ... (the price per share) will definitely decrease in the next month or so, but Ariba is a hold for the long-term." Moose1010 posted his bullish, albeit cautious, view of Ariba on The Motley Fool's boards, "their earnings growth and customer base is impressive, and their business plan seems sound, but they can't afford many missteps. Let's see if they can effectively use all that cash they just raised."

A stock rocket like Ariba inevitably encourages a bevy of hypothetical ideas in the discussion groups. Nacjac hinted, "Hmm, perhaps Ariba's neighbors to the north in Redwood Shores (Oracle) have them on their shopping list?!? Or big blue??" Farfetched? Who cares - it makes for good message board fodder.
