Net.Caller and VocalTec'sInternet Phone Offers Consumers Something to Talk About

July 8, 1999 03:26 PM
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 8, 1999--"You have mail" may well be the 90s catch phrase for the Internet, but as the 21st century nears people who want big savings on long-distance phone service will be using the Internet to say "It's for you."

Access Power Inc. ACCR , an Internet based long-distance provider, combines its flat-rate Net.Caller(TM) service with the VocalTec Communications Ltd. VOCL Internet Phone(R) in an innovative promotion to give consumers a complete Internet phone calling package.

VocalTec and Access Power recently signed a co-marketing agreement to promote VocalTec's Internet Phone and Access Power's flat-rate Net.Caller Internet long-distance service in the U.S. and Canada.

During July and August, consumers who purchase a VocalTec Internet Phone at participating U.S. and Canadian retail stores will receive a free month of Net.Caller long-distance phone service. Net.Caller allows callers to place unlimited calls to a regular telephone for a flat rate of $10 per month using their multimedia PC and Internet connection. The Internet Phone is a software client that enables users to make low-cost PC-to-phone calls or unlimited free long distance PC-to-PC realtime voice and video calls to anyone online using a multimedia PC running Internet Phone.

"Using VocalTec's end-to-end solutions, Access Power's Net.Caller service is setting a new trend for the carrier and service provider market," said Scott Wharton, vice president of VocalTec Communications. "Net.Caller's flat rate service allows Access Power to reduce their operating costs and pass the benefits on to users by offering them lower costs and simpler calling plans. We look forward to working with Access Power as they grow their network and continue to develop new and innovative services."

Douglas Bottomley, senior vice president of marketing for Access Power, said everyone wins. "There's no catch. Consumers use the global advantage of the Internet to rack up substantial long-distance phone savings. We are the only Internet long-distance provider offering unlimited usage for a flat rate of $10 per month. Calls can be made from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the United States and Canada," he said. Bottomley noted this is not the first time the two companies have teamed up. VocalTec developed the engine that powers Net.Caller service. "With this promotion, we are combining the strength of both companies -- VocalTec's products and software and Access Power's Internet-based phone service -- to bring the power of the Internet closer to home," Bottomley said.

Internet phone service is only a couple of years old. Access Power is one of the first companies to offer Internet long-distance phone service and is the only one to offer a flat rate. "The growing popularity of the Internet, continual hardware and software improvements and higher-speed connections makes the Internet the communications vehicle of choice for many. In this promotion, the Internet Phone and Net.Caller combine in a way that benefits consumers who want to use the technology of the Internet to their advantage," Bottomley said.

Access Power Inc. is a pioneer service provider of Internet phone service. The company offers Internet-based phone-to-phone service, software that allows free PC-to-PC calling and low-rate PC-to-phone calling from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the U.S. and Canada.
