Hi,

I'm reading this on a laptop, and in multiple-message mode, it is very hard for me to separate the messages. The horizontal separator line is too thin to visually delineate the separation between messages. You're probably saving some HTML and rendering speed by eliminating a box around each message, but the new line is too faint to be a good separator.

Also, when certain text is grayed out (e.g., "Next 10"), it appears almost white against an almost white background. I couldn't see it at first.

The olive bars on the single message screens appear to have a slight gradient, but the light part is on the left where the white text is. This makes the text lose contrast with its background. The gradient ought to be reversed, or just use a solid bar

Scott

Bryan,

I've noticed that you are displaying private messages in a sans serif font, and public messages in serif. Needless to say, a serif font is preferable for string text. If you are doing it to create some differentiation for the user, perhaps a slightly colored background would serve the same purpose.

Aha, that answers ONE of my questions, anyway. Somebody from SI is reading this thread.

But I have more questions, and just in case you might overlook them, here is the post I ask them in:

Message 10372920

Your attention would be much appreciated. :-)

I've been trying to find something to complain about - missed all my good TV shows sitting here thinking - all to no avail. My wife says your colors are somewhat pastel and she would like more contrast. As I'm color blind it is not on my list of priorities. Thanks guys - nice job.
(I'll continue to think of something)

One change I would like to see to the beta is to have the "Previous | Next" etc links right-justified above the message in reverse order. I suppose that would be terrible for folks who use very wide browser windows, but I'd find much easier to use since I tend to pull my pointer away to the right when reading a message.

Although I use a mouse wheel to scroll, I still find myself (though long habit, perhaps) pulling the pointer toward the scroll bar. Having "Next" close to the scroll bar makes for more economical mouse movement.

Heritage Navigation was better:

Messages>Inbox, Folders
Bookmarks>Subjects, People
HotSubjects>Hot, New
Preferences>Options, Profile

but
Home LogOut StockTalk Inbox SubjectMarks PeopleMarks Customize Portfolio

all laid out from left to right across the top has me
hunting...I see that we have the ability to customize
the navigation bar (tool bar)...customizing it with two
levels like on the old site might be good. Even better,
I'd like to be able to get rid of a couple of those,
and use the dropdown SI navigation at right...

and the Inbox is not very noticable when there is something new in there, need that red back.

I am rediscovering how good the old site was, for instance
note how heritage navigation simplifies when you move into a
thread, nice.

Going back to the old site now, Goodbye!

Bryan,

I'm sure this has been brought up a gazillion times, but honestly I am too lazy to read all the input on at least 4 different threads, so I'll ask.

I have noticed if I click a link that takes me to a post on a "Coffee Shop" thread I see all the banners and ads that non-members see. Is this a "bug" or part of the new program?

Wish List Item:

The ability to specify a SI 'Opening Page'. Should be a part of customization. For me, it would be the subject mark page. I would like SI to open there directly after I enter user name/password. Everything else is secondary.

Do I have a hope of getting this?

I've seen just a few postings expressing dissatisfaction with 'Subject Search'. I don't know if you realize how major a degradation it is. Let me give an example.

I saw a NY Times article on the net last night which reported that a federal court had significantly tightened the requirement to win a class-action securities fraud suit against a corporation. I thought a reference link to that article would be an important contribution to any SI thread that deals with class-action stock fraud suits.

So I came to Beta SI and did a KEYWORD Search for "lawsuit". What is the search result? "Sorry, security 'lawsuit' not found."

Of course, the security 'lawsuit' is not found, but what about the keyword 'lawsuit'?

Then I went to Classic SI and keyword-searched 'lawsuit'. The results?

Quite a difference, isn't there? A severe degradation in the Beta Site!

This difference isn't merely a matter of design taste. It's a matter of essential quality of SI. It deserves immediate and urgent attention!

Bryan,

An additional comment on the new site:

The new charting feature is great, but, I just realized that we can no longer do comparison charts. This is disappointing.

Also, a question: Is the IQC charting site just down, or have you decided to incorporate it into S.I. completely? IOW, will it no longer be available independant of S.I.?

My other comments were posted to David, but I think I should have posted them to you, so here they are again.

Bryan,

From the home page on the beta site:

>>...Our number one customer request was better charts. We added some hot, new charts from IQC.com and linked them directly into the discussion area as well as company research. In fact, we liked these charts so much - we bought the company that built them....<<

This is not enough! It's an inconvenience to have navigate through discussion, company research, or through some random stock symbol just to get to these "most wanted" charts. We need a link to "charts" in the drop-down menu under S.I. Navigation. Would that be possible?

Thanks!

Can you separate the subjects "with new messages" from those "with out new messages"

It takes too long for the page to load when their clumped together.

Okay, I've searched the thread and I don't think that this has been pointed out yet.

I view the SubjectMarks page and I get a nice list of those threads with recent (unread) messages with message counts. I choose one to read by clicking on the number (of unread messages). I proceed to read all of the messages that had been unread and then proceed back to the SubjectMarks page by clicking on the appropriate part of the NavBar. I get the same list as before with the number that I had clicked before in a different colour [sic - Canadian]. No matter how often (or how hard <GGG>) I hit refresh, the list is never updated. Also, new messages posted since the time I first loaded the page aren't included.

Just to complicate things more, I tried logging out and logging in again. That's when things got really screwy because the system couldn't decide whether I was logged in or not.

Is anyone else having this problem?
