Could be, Achilles. Frankly, I'm not the one who was worried about society's getting too "permissive" about behavior. What bothers me more is that it is too tacky in its tastes. The things "it" watches! The things "it" reads! The stuff "it" listens to! Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!

I would agree with you about the Jerry Springer show and the other really gross examples of popular culture, Achilles. I have taken just a tiny peek at these on occasion when I am feeling down, for the purposes of entertainment and regaining the smug superiority that I try not to show but usually carry on the inside, like most somewhat elitist intellectual sorts of people do.

However, being so far removed from mass culture, I have no idea just how many Americans conduct their lives that way. And why on earth they would then want to come on television and tell us all about it!!

I must say that I am not overly concerned about not 'getting any', but of course I am female, and so I don't think about sex a thousand times a day. And I have found absolutely none of the people I have ever seen on those shows to be sexually appealing.
