The article in the Union Tribune states that GTE wants QUALCOMM to enter into a licensing agreement or wants an injunction preventing QUALCOMM and competing service from using the technology.GTE dose alot of business with QUALCOMM so I doubt that either party would want a patent dispute to become a huge issue. The competition mentioned also would no doubt become involved in the dispute. The wireless industry is on fire with opportunity at this moment in time and I doubt that this would escalate into a industry wide problem.Just my humble opinion.

We need Engineer it comet on the ASIC embedment as to wether the disputed patent is involved structurally in the CDMA ASIC.I doubt QUALCOMM would have done this just on the basis of risk.
