They began the US trials in June of 1998. They last for three years or as soon as they show the 30% efficacy. The trials in Thailand started this year sometime.

I don't know how many volunteers they have, but suspect they did not have any trouble recruiting them. I read somewhere (probably on their web site) that Don Francis is one of the volunteers. That shows confidence in the safety of the vaccine.
