As a member of the Grammar and Spelling Lab tribunal, I cordially invite you over for the much needed lessons on the use and meaning of the subjunctive mood, which indicates conditions contrary to fact. You meant to say to melinda "if I weren't married...."

We tend to be very kind and gentle souls--except on those occasions when certain members (who will remain nameless) form conspiracies to trap other members.

[Meanwhile, my poor heart is broken. Flirting with other women the moment my back is turned! (Sniff, sniff....)]
