Harold, a lot of people I know would change their lives for yours. There is wonderful satisfaction in a scientific vocation. My dad didn't have a 'life' either, very little leisure, but we loved all the time he managed to spend with us. All he knew was the market and medicine, really he never had time for anything else.

He changed his life before the age of 70 and retired back to Israel to volunteer his services at the Tel Hashomer Israeli Army hospital, what was supposed to be a consulatory part time job but turned into into two part time jobs, where he divided his time at Levinstein Hospital in Raanana where he took care of trauma cases with severe head wounds.

Most of his patients were in comas and in their early 20's, but some of them pulled through. So this was his life until he passed away in one of the hospital that he dedicated the last 12 years to (he finally retired only when he passed away).. So I would not weigh your life according to how much leisure time you have.
