Sigh. I dont think I've ever been ashamed to be associated with @home until today.

Broadband 'protest' fizzles in SF
But Excite@Home tactic may be a sign of bitter fight over cable Net access.
zdnet.com

heres a piece:
SAN FRANCISCO - Young men and women dressed like chess pieces stood on a giant chess board outside of City Hall here Thursday, waving signs complaining about government regulation.
Only the issue at hand related to the cable industry, which is already thoroughly regulated. And the "protest" was in reality an event staged by Excite@Home (Nasdaq:ATHM).

The protesters consisted of about thirty Excite@Home employees and hired students. They claimed to be there to raise public awareness on what they call the "first step towards government regulation over Internet access."

This is good:
"Our position is clear: consumers should not have to pay twice to get what they want," said AOL's Jim Whitney. AOL wants customers who want broadband not to have to pay both for broadband service and AOL

AOL has shown itself to be the master of misleading and outrageously untrue statments and the press is more than willing to echo the stupidity. Sounds like AOL should be right at home with the politicians(no pun intended). @home is out of its league in regards to "public relations".

I've got an ugly feeling in the pit of my stomach about this pending decision by SF. Anyone know when it will happen and when it will be announced?
