<<I've never known a man who was dating a divorced woman who really "liked" her kids.>>

Well, I was a widow, not a divorcee, when my second husband-to-be started dating me, but I don't think that matters, in this context.

I had one little boy, whom we will call "V." At first, my future husband (a divorced man, with kids of his own) thought "V" was weird. For one thing, "V" used to spend hours playing football -- with himself; tackling himself, collapsing on the floor; struggling to his feet; tackling himself again, and so on infinitum. And "J" would say: "My kids aren't like that." (Meaning that his kids were "civilized.")

But after we were married, "J" really came to love "V." (Everybody loves "V" -- he is really irresistible.) Honest to God, I think he loved "V" more than his own kids. And "V" loved him. When "V" graduated from prep school (one that "J" insisted he go to), and received all kinds of honors at the graduation ceremony, "J" had tears in his eyes! (My eyes were dry; I never cry at ceremonies.)

So it goes...

I've never known a man who was dating a divorced woman who really
"liked" her kids. Especially if they were over the age of seven. Most of
the time the kids never liked them either. Tolerate, yes................
like, never.

I dated several divorced women with kids when I was single (and eventually married one). It was easy to become fond of kids under ten or eleven real fast. I still feel bad (guilty?) about breaking up with a couple women because of their kids. I really liked them, they sure acted like they liked me, and I believed they needed somebody to be a Dad (or at least a stepdad) in their lives. I hope they turned out OK and wish there some way to find out (I/they live in other states now). Course if I found out they turned out to have problems, then I'd really feel bad.

Teenagers or near-teens are something else. I've come to learn that teenage years are often hard for everybody involved.

Actually, I have known several who did and do.

From the other side of the fence, I was with a divorced man for eight years. After our affair ended, all hell nearly broke loose when one of his sons was marrying and insisted on inviting me to the wedding as a member of the family; we had become that fond. His ex-wife and I are still close friends.
