The level to which an advertisement would have to be tailored to be truly effective would require incredibly intrusive data gathering don't you think? No reasonable person would give up these secrets? Ah, but that's the beauty of it - you will be targeted ads based on previous responses and similar interests. Much like CDNow targets certain cds based on your previous buying habits. Advertisers will be willing to pay big bucks just to get people like you and I (the ones who claim to buy based on need and not impulse). You see, they still want to tell us what we need.
