I was always in a scab shop. Louisiana has "right-to-work" laws. The engraving shop was a union shop, but if I joined the union I would have had to quit, because I was an apprentice on the day shift but there was no journeyman on the day shift. But they didn't set type there, it was an engraving shop. We made "cuts." And that was the closest I ever really got to letterpress.
