Several people have sent me private messages about the CMGI Directed Share program. This is what I know about it:

If you own 100 shares of CMGI, you receive a notice by regular mail from CMGI via the brokerage house which is holding your CMGI shares in street name for you. This notice tells you about the Directed-Share program. The notice also has a 7 digit "investor code" which is like a "key" or password which you enter into the registration form at the WIT site. Once you are registered with WIT you then get the e-mail I posted previously which tells you how to place a conditional offer for the CMGI distribution.

Hi e-dollar. This may actually be of interest to others too..

Discover Brokerage requires $100k in account values to be eligible to ioi for IPOs. I did not have the $100k in cash. However, I did have that much in stock at another broker. This is stock I intend to hod for long term so I didnt want to sell and convert to cash.

So i transferred this stock by way of a "DTC" transfer. This is similar to a wire transfer of funds, only that it is done for stocks. The positions were instantly transferred from my old broker to DB in 15 minutes. The DTC info for DB is below. It is different for every broker. Find out the fax number to your old broker's DTC (or account transfer department) and request a partial transfer via the DTC method of xyz securities. The transaction can be completed in a day or so.

On your fax include the following info:

Discover Brokerage is self-clearing
Discover Brokerage's DTC No. is #5147
Transfer should be marked FBO/ Your name
Your Discover Brokerage Account #

Re: margin-- your outgoing broker may not be willing to transfer your stock if doing so reduces your equity below the allowable margin limits. You may have to first pay off the debt.

I don't know etrade's DTC #, but its easy to find out. Call the ET account transfer department. They'll give you the info similar to the DB info above.
