A 2nd thought on Ameritrade's Notice:

I've read and re-read the letter from Ameritrade and (hope springing eternal - or until bankrupty) I can see where this may represent an Ameritrade "policy correspondence," i.e. a notice to investors ahead of a known expiration - warrants, options, whatever - triggered by the calendar. It would, after all, explain the error in the conversion price which would have been entered into the system at a time when $9 was an accurate figure.

That's the best spin I can give this. It does seem odd to me that I'm the only one reporting the correspondence.
