Well, what if the shepherd had a very favorite sheep, who really enjoyed having sex with him, and was very willing, and followed him everywhere, and butted the other sheep away so she could be the only one? Wouldn't that be a RELATIONSHIP?

Did you ever see Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Sex? There is a great scene between Gene Wilder and a sheep. He's a psychiatrist, Woody Allen consults him because he has fallen in love with a sheep, and Gene Wilder wants to have a session and discuss the matter with the sheep. Then Wilder and the sheep run off together, and Allen finds them together in a motel. The sheep is wearing fishnet hose and a garter belt, Wilder is smoking a cigarette. It's pretty funny.

But then you aren't a sheep. It's very disrespectful to our brother-sister creatures to laugh at unrequited love. Maybe they would feel better if they could feel it was a sexual relationship, instead of one of those casual prairie affairs. Have a heart.
