I don't think there are too many who really believe that Jan 1st will see us thrust back into the stone age.

There will be problems here in the US, but I think that enough awareness has been built into the system, that no one will be suddenly surprised or unable to circumvent IT problems. After all, glitches happen each and every day.

Minus localized temporary problems, I'm not frankly too worried about the physical economy of the US shutting down.

Now, as for Asia and the EU nations, I'm not quite as confident. They are almost assured to have problems given their relatively late start. How bad they suffer will be something we'll just have to find out.
