Looks like Honda has developed a hybrid vehicle.

Honda says develops most fuel-efficient car

TOKYO, July 6 (Reuters) - Honda Motor Co said on Tuesday its Insight model hybrid-engined car will be the world's most fuel efficient mass-produced gasoline-powered car.

The car, featuring new technology in its engine and aluminium body, achieves 35 km per litre, Honda said. It is scheduled to come on to the market this autumn.

The Insight, a two-door coupe, will use a combined gasoline engine and electric motor, although the gasoline engine will be its main source of power.

Its aluminium structure is 40 percent lighter than steel, helping to reduce fuel consumption.

Toyota Motor Corp's Prius is currently the world's only mass market hybrid-engined car. The automaker sells about 1,500 of the models per month in Japan.

The Insight's engine system uses a lean-burn catalytic converter that reduces exhaust emissions to levels 50 percent below stricter Japanese limits set to take effect in 2000.
